What a fair AC repair price looks like in Wichita
Real ranges for the five repairs we do most, what drives the number up or down, and the three quote patterns that should make you get a second opinion.
Nobody enjoys the moment a technician stands up from your outdoor unit and says "well…". The discomfort is not really the money — it is not knowing whether the number you just heard is normal. So here are ours.
What the common repairs actually cost
- Run capacitor: $180–$280. The single most common summer failure, and a same-visit fix.
- Contactor: $200–$320. The relay that takes the beating every time the unit cycles.
- Condenser fan motor: $450–$750, depending on whether the blade survived.
- Blower motor: $500–$900. ECM motors on newer systems are the top of that range.
- Refrigerant leak: $400–$1,200. The spread is all about where the leak is — an accessible line set is cheap, an evaporator coil is not.
Three patterns worth a second opinion
- A refrigerant top-off with no leak search. You are paying to fill a bucket with a hole in it.
- A replacement quote before a diagnosis. A ten-year-old system deserves a real diagnosis first, then the replacement math.
- A price that only exists today. Legitimate pricing survives until tomorrow.
Ask for the old part
Any honest shop will hand you the failed capacitor or contactor. It costs us nothing and it settles the question of whether the repair was real.
